I would like to move into a career in business analysis, where should I start?
We commonly see people move into business analysis roles from the business in medium and large organisations. If you work in a medium or larger organisation you could look for opportunities to work with a software project as a subject matter expert or get seconded onto the project to undertake analysis or user acceptance testing.
Information technology graduates or existing software project professionals moving into business analysis is another common path.
You can consider professional business analysis courses such as those in Equinox’s IIBA endorsed business analysis suite. This does show employers that you have taken the initiative and are serious about moving into business analysis. Our Introduction to Business Analysis course is the best place to start. Equinox provides training courses but offers no services or assistance in placing candidates into business analysis roles.
Is there a recommended training path through Equinox’s business analysis courses?
Equinox has intentionally developed its business analysis courses to be one and two day modules, so that attendees can pick and mix the most suitable courses to their needs. In general however, we would recommend taking courses roughly in the order outlined in the following diagram, starting where appropriate for your given experience.
If you are new to business analysis, then start with the Introduction to Business Analysis course. If you have business analysis experience then the Requirements Analysis Framework course is the best place to start and provides a roadmap for requirements analysis and a platform for the courses that follow.
